AMHL forms (dowload/link to the required form)

    Sprint, Freight or Distance Racing: The dog must accumulate a minimum of 25 race miles and must have completed the course in all races considered.

    • The races may be any class.
    • Each heat may count as a race as long as it fulfills the above requirements.
    • Races must be run under ISDRA or AMHL rules.
    • All events must be certified by a race official or an impartial witness.
  • If sprint or freight racing, the dog must finish (without disqualification or being timed out) in at least three different races in which there are at least three teams competing.
  • If the title is obtained via a freight team, a minimum weight of 50 lbs per dog must be carried on the sled.
  • The team must complete the race at an acceptable speed under normal conditions:
    • For Sprint Class: 9 MPH
    • For Freight and Distance races: 7 MPH

    Under extreme conditions, a slower average speed will qualify. Slower speeds will also be acceptable if the team completes the race in the top 30% of the competition. The dog must complete all races in an acceptable amount of time and not have been timed-out or disqualified.

    Required minimum distances will be determined by the class in which the dog is running:

    • For Sprint racing: 1 mile for each dog on the team with a minimum of 3 miles required.
    • For Freight racing: a minimum distance of 3 miles with a minimum of 50 pounds per dog added to the weight of the sled.
    • For Distance racing: the required minimum distance will be 20 miles per day (one race of 25 miles will be considered as having fulfilled the requirements).

    Excursion:

    The dog must accumulate a minimum of 40 excursion miles. The dog or dogs must pull the sled or cart a minimum of 10 miles per excursion. An impartial witness must sign the form to verify proof of distance travelled and dog or dogs competing.

    Combination racing and Excursion: One or two 10-mile or longer races may count toward the required total of 40 excursion miles.

    WLD For the Working Lead Dog title, the same requirements apply as for Working Team Dog, except that:

    • The dog must run single lead on a team consisting of at least three dogs;
    • The dog does not have to lead the same team each time to qualify;
    • The dog must run on the leading team for at least 50% of the time if 2 or more teams are traveling together.

AMHL

Excellent Dog Excellent (WDX) Program:

    For dogs and owners who are looking for a little more challenge, the HELP League also has a Working Dog Excellent (WDX) Program, consisting of the same areas of endeavour but with more exacting requirements in each. The titles are WTDX, WLDX, WWPDX and WPDX.

    The WD level requires some training and conditioning but should be attainable by any sound and healthy dog. The WDX was created to recognize a significantly higher level of achievement and would not be possible for a dog who does not possess a good attitude and physical abilities. For information on the WDX requirements, click here.

DISCLAIMER:

It is the responsibility of dog owners to make sure that their dogs are sufficiently trained and conditioned and that they pose no hazard to the health or welfare of themselves or other dogs and people participating in the event. Any dog or team proven a hazard to other participants at an event will be disqualified from certification.

Any driver/handler who displays poor sportsmanship or abuses his or her dogs will be disqualified from certification.

It is the responsibility of the dog owner to obtain and mail all the necessary documents, signatures and otherwise complete all requirements to get their dogs certified by the HELP League.
