Patches (Apache) came to us, last April, in rough shape. By all appearances, he has lived his life on a chain and it took 2 surgeries to remove and repair the damage from a deeply embedded collar from his neck. His coat was patchy, covered in sores from snout to tail. He was happy to jump in the car and go for a ride, instantly happy and trusting; he slept the whole way home.

We believe that Patches is about 5 year old. Today, Patches is a happy, healthy and spirited young man who loves to play and make new dog friends. He's still mastering his leash skills but tries hard to be a good boy and he loves to be outside. He'll happily sit for hours out on his blanket in the sun, just watching the day go by. He's been excellent with other dogs and doesn't seem all that interested in cats, although we've never fully tested that.

Patches is a seriously fun-loving and affectionate guy who would love to have a family to call his own. He is adaptable, gentle and loving. Patches does have some cloudiness in his eyes which limits his vision to an unknown degree. This disadvantage does not seem to limit him in ANY way, he doesn't startle, react, trip or stumble. He is up-to-date on all vaccines and was health checked in April 2013. He is still intact so will need to be neutered prior to adoption. He has a lot of love and life and live to give to the right family - and any family who gets him will be truly blessed. Patches is one of those great rescue stories - he started in rags and gives us all nothing but riches.

Given that it is impossible to predict with complete accuracy how any dog will react in a given situation, without completeknowledge of its life experiences, the AMHL urges the adopter to exercise caution in introducing the dog tonew situations until the dog has become fully adjusted to its new environment and the adopter has had an opportunity to become familiar with the dog's unique personality.
