Close up image of Snowy
Snowy is a sweet 6 yr old neutered male Malamute who was scheduled for euthanasia in a BC shelter in early summer of 2011. He is under-going rehabilitation for hip surgery in his wonderful foster home and will eventually require two additional surgeries. Snowy will not be available until after rehabilitation for these surgeries as they are crucial to his complete recovery.

A Donation of any amount to Snowy's medical care would be greatly appreciated!

This is what his current foster home has to say:

"Snowy is a very affectionate and easygoing boy who loves to lay by your side and be petted. He also enjoys just being in your company and will lay quietly if you are busy.

He does enjoy the company of another dog as long as the dog isn’t pushy. Snowy is submissive to our male malamute but they have never met without a fence between them. He has shown some interest in our cat but a stern, "No", will distract him and he will just sniff the cat. Caution must be used when introducing him to small furry critters. Horses also seem to be something he would like to chase.

Snowy does know some basic commands and walks well on leash but will pull slightly if something catches his eye. He loves his walks and will turn to see if you are following, which is certainly not a typical characteristic of most Malamutes!

Snowy will probably always have an unusual gait due to his hip surgery and will not be suitable for weight pulling, sledding or strenuous exercise. He will make a wonderful house Malamute, providing love and affection and companionship on leisurely walks."

Snowy would do well in a home with older school aged children. In a previous foster home, he was around a 9 yr old boy and was great with him.

Snowy is a special needs malamute and will require special food and supplements for the rest of his life.

A home where he can spend nights indoors would be best as he has some arthritis due to his injuries.

If you can offer Snowy the warm loving forever home he so deserves, please complete an application to adopt a malamute from the AMHL.

Given that it is impossible to predict with complete accuracy how any dog will react in a given situation, without completeknowledge of its life experiences, the AMHL urges the adopter to exercise caution in introducing the dog tonew situations until the dog has become fully adjusted to its new environment and the adopter has had an opportunity to become familiar with the dog's unique personality.
