Teesha is a 9 year old female Malamute that is seeking a new home. This girl is a beautiful long coated mal and she has lots of personality to go along with her beauty.

Unfortunately, Teesha’s primary care giver passed away, and Teesha was terribly stressed by the loss – giving into “stress chewing” of her beautiful plume tail. Her remaining family could not spend the time with her that she seemed to need and, as a result, Teesha has moved to an AMHL foster home where she is settling in well.

Teesha came into rescue overweight but so far her foster home has been able to reduce her weight by 8 lbs and counting! The pictures of this lovely girl are from after a thorough grooming by an amazingly talented groomer. You can see how pretty this girl is! She is indeed a long coated malamute which does require regular brushing in order to maintain her coat.

This lovely girl has bonded very well with her foster home and we are learning all sorts of things about her goofy personality. She had a lot to say while being groomed, much woo-wooing. Normally though she is a quiet enough girl. She does like to know where her people are – and sometimes will woo woo if she thinks she should have some attention.

Some of her other goofy-ness includes her drinking style. She likes to slobber while she drinks and then give her head a good shake after a nice mouthful of water. She has a great deal of energy for an older, heavier girl. She will rush around in circles when playing - one way then the other and back again. It's a hoot to see her!

This older gal still knows how to steal food off the counter (which she’s done at least once), how to open her foster-dad’s lunch pail and give a good chew to things like tissue boxes and books. All this is to be expected given the huge change in Teesha’s life. She’s generally not destructive in the house, and thus we feel the minor chewing is stress related. She is no longer chewing her tail so we do see her settling in and getting happy.

Teesha is not fond of other dogs and thus should be adopted by a home with no other dogs. In typical malamute fashion, Teesha does like to pull when walking on leash. She does not care to be approached by other dogs on walks and really has a lot to say when she sees them from the car.

She has been living with a cat and while she’s shown some interest, the dog-savvy cat has managed to keep the upper hand in the relationship. She can certainly live with a cat that knows how to handle dogs. Teesha also should not live with younger children, teens would be fine.

Given that it is impossible to predict with complete accuracy how any dog will react in a given situation, without completeknowledge of its life experiences, the AMHL urges the adopter to exercise caution in introducing the dog tonew situations until the dog has become fully adjusted to its new environment and the adopter has had an opportunity to become familiar with the dog's unique personality.
