Updated: July 17, 2009
Simba is a very pretty seal and white 4-5 yr old spayed female Malamute in AMHL foster care in Alberta. She was rescued from a situation where her only alternatives were being shot by her owner or euthanized.
Simba's favourite pastime is to be loved by her foster family. She will be available for adoption when she recovers from needed surgery (TPLO for neglected injury where her ligaments in one back leg were torn in multiple areas; and a new injury to her other back leg requiring a second TPLO).
July 17, 2009 Update on Simba's surgery from her foster Mom:
Simba is on her way to making a beautiful recovery from her first
TPLO on her left hind leg. We can now enjoy 2-3 daily walks of 15
minutes at a controlled pace. We have also done 2-3 stairs with ease.
Simba attends weekly, sometimes twice, visits to her rehabilitation
vet for the water treadmill treatment and chiropractic therapy. We
just recently saw Dr. Walker, her surgeon, who was quite happy with
her progress. Her leg muscles are building up quite quickly and he is
very impressed.
We are scheduled to attend her final assessment visit with Dr. Walker,
for the left leg this weekend and her surgery date for the right hind
leg will be booked. And we will start our process all over again.
We are also aiming for utilizing her rehab treatments as a source of
helping to curb her weight. I might add that she has been quite
patient with her foster parents as they too, learn how to handle the
recovery process.
We have learned through our time with Simba that she has a slight fear of thunder and the sound of chainsaws. She does not cry but may whimper a little and tends to look for somewhere to hide. She is also
NOT a fan of the vacuum.
She is still very gracious and lady-like. Her walking skills are
perfect. She will listen to calm commands with no difficulty.
A BIG thank you to all those who have donated for her surgery!
Regards,
Christie & Simba

About Simba:
Simba's foster mom reports the following:
-She is actually between 4-5 years old (according to Vets)
-Amazing with people, infants to the elderly. Neighbours come to visit her almost
everyday.
-Shows no aggression to friendly dogs, cats, etc. Has interacted with small to large
dogs without any signs at all.
-She is so affectionate. She loves to be loved. She waits patiently for you and then
bats her adoring eyes and you can't resist.
-Quiet. She is just so quiet and just watches everything.
-She loves truck rides. Really loves them.
-Loves being outside. She just lies in the grass and watches the world go by.
