"We have a wonderful malamute in our shelter by the name of 'Mala'. She is about 8 years old, is a spayed female, has no dog aggression, has been raised around young children, and is the most sweet and loving girl you could ever meet. A big hairy teddy bear!!! As you may have guessed, we know Mala quite well. For years Mala has been a frequent visitor at our shelter from running at large. Her owners have spent a fortune claiming her from the shelter, but just couldn't figure out that she needed to be tied or contained on their property."
Mala is looking for a family that can give her the attention she needs. Her running at large is mostly to find someone who will give her attention (and possibly treats since she is a Malamute!).
Her owners have decided not to claim her anymore from animal control and she is now a resident. Because of her size and age, she is not likely to find a home quickly and will start to lose hope if she stays for a long time.
Mala is looking for a semi-retired home with people who want to show her the attention she craves. She has not been assessed by the AMHL yet but will be shortly.

Given that it is impossible to predict with complete accuracy how any dog will react in a given situation, especially without complete knowledge of its life experiences. The AMHL urges the adopter to exercis e caution in introducing the dog to new situations until the dog has become fully adjusted to its new environment, and the adopter has had an opportunity to become familiar with the dog's unique personality. All contractual obligations concerning this dog will be between the shelter and the adopter.
