Rusty is a 5 year old male malamute looking for his forever home.

Rusty has already been in 2 homes and was recently dumped in a boarding Kennel.

His kind care-giver is dedicated to helping Rusty find the right home and be apart of a family that is committed and dedicated to him. She describes Rusty as loving ALL people. Because of his size - we would not recommend a home with very small children as he loves to do the 'Malamute lean!'

He has the typical prey drive and so small animals in the home would also not be appropriate.

As you can see from his picture - Rusty loves to sled. An active family would be important and he will need lots of exercise.

He will challenge other male dogs so a placement with a female only will be considered. His care-giver has been working on commands. He now knows sit - lay down - shake paw - leave it and NO.

Rusty will challenge other dogs around his food/toys or bones. He will not challenge people and allows his care-giver to take away his food although he will shove his big head in his food bowl to cover it.

Rusty is a typical Malamute - If you give him an inch he'll run you and your house. He will need a strong leader with rules. His family must understand that NO rough play will be acceptable with this dog. He must always know his place in the pack.

He pulls on leash like most Northern dogs so walking him will be a challenge and his family will need to find the right training aid to help with his pulling.

He absolutely wants only to be with his family. He will whine and cry when left alone so he may exhibit some separation anxiety until he fits into a routine.

Rusty has never had stability so what he needs is a dedicated and committed family who will love him and spend lots of time with him. He will need an active home and would do well with recreational sledding. He would probably enjoy the company of another dog as long as it is a female.
