Urgent: Nuka is in desperate need of a foster home. If you have room in your heart and home for this girl, please contact Carmen Hanak carmenjune@sympatico.ca ASAP!
Recommendation from Nuka's caregivers:
--------------------------------------
Nuka is not recommended for a home with cats, small dogs, or in a home with small children. She would do well as an only dog, or with a single male as companion.
Nuka's profile
Nuka is an approximately 2 year old, black and white, spayed female, Malamute mix who is looking for a new home. She is currently located a few hours from the Toronto, Ontario area.
Nuka's caregivers report:
"When we got Nuka she had been in a cage for the first 9 months of her life. She was a handfull. She was underweight and not doing well in a caged environment. Nuka has come a very long way in a relatively short period of time. Nuka is now 2 years of age and is better adapted. She has gained weight and is a very happy girl.
Nuka is a sweet girl who would love nothing more than to be relocated to a home where she doesn't need to compete with too many dogs for attention. Nuka is currently in a home with 3 other dogs and 2 cats which has created some problems. She is very prey driven and is not suitable for a home with cats, small dogs, or other furry small animals. She tries to be dominant but will submit to a more dominant dog and is best suited with male dogs if there are other dogs in the houseold.
Nuka is very prey driven which is why she's being re-located. She can also not be placed in a home where there are children as she doesn't know her own strength and her prey drive could be a problem around children.
Nuka has a special place in her heart for women and lights up when they give her attention. She's loves nothing more than to sit on the sofa across your lap or be leaning into you giving you sweet little kisses.
Nuka LOVES to play fetch and will bring you a ball for hours. If you're sitting where your ears are accessable she will nibble them and kiss you all over for attention and to get you to play with her. She will also nibble at your hand if there is something she wants. This has been discouraged but so far she's not been broken of this habbit completely.
Nuka has been an indoor dog who's crated during the day while her parents are out at work. She's been given a few tries at being left out of her crate while her parents are out for the day and she has had some success but has also done some damage while left alone. She's definately close to not having to be crated but still has a little way to go. She's never had a real accident in the house or crate, the exception to this was when she was younger if some one new would come into the house she would get so excited she would pee just a little, this hasn't happened in the last 6 months.
Nuka is eager to learn new commands but gets frustrated when she doesn't get it right and will stomp her feet out of frustration. She will also stomp her feet into the ground if bored or excited about something. Nuka rarely barks but if she's outside and wants to come back inside she will cry in the malamute fashion to get your attention.
When it comes to walking Nuka she will need work, she pulls and will chase anything that resembles prey. Nuka responds better if put in a harness when walking as oposed to tieing the lead to her collar.
When meeting new people Nuka will usually be submissive and roll on her back. If she knows the person she will approach submissively and roll over on her back expecting a belly rub, then gets all excited and will often jump up. Jumping up has also been discouraged and is close to being solved.
All in all she is an amazing dog who has more love to give than anyone could ever expect she definately tries her best to please you and wants nothing more than simply to be loved in return. Even if she's done something that infuriates you her personality and apology melts your heart and makes it impossible to not lover her with all your heart. This girl has an amazing personality that always makes me smile and could win over even the toughest of them."
Nuka is a young girl and will require a home that is able to provide her with the exercise that she needs. Nuka is used to a harness and would be an excellent skijor companion in Winter as well as a carting & biking companion the rest of the year.
